My Tokyo Marui GBB Desert Eagle .50

It's coming here Mr. Anderson. It's coming here and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Well, the nice postman showed up with my pistol today, and you better believe I took lots of pictures. So for your entertainment, I've made a small table here of images, click the small images for high resolution versions of them. When I say high resolution, I mean it, the images are 383KB-538KB large. Dial-up users beware! Hope you like it. :)

Fresh out of the box pics. Mmm... Hong Kong Air

Well, I can't believe it got here so quick. It arrived before my gas and BBs got here, so I haven't done much but intimidate the neighboor's kids with it. hahaha. No, I'm just kidding. Airsoft guns shouldn't be shown in public places or you're liable to get shot at by the police. This Desert Eagle is an impressive piece. Almost as impressive as the real steel version. It's very solidy built and it operates almost identically to the actual gun. The safety, slide catch, magazine release...it's all the real deal. I can see why they have all the warnings about showing it in public. Laying on my desk it's almost impossible to tell it's not the real deal. This gun is heavy, not nearly as heavy as the 4.4lb real steel, but 2.1lbs or so. You definitely feel powerful holding this thing in your hands! The orange paint on the end of the barrel proves to be hindering to photo ops and theatrical use, so I have removed it. However, it should be noted that unless it is being used for theatrical, photo, or purposes like that, a barrel cap that is flourescent orange should be installed when in use. I do own such a cap and intend to use it on any live fire situtations (less those used for short films and photo oppurtunities.) Here's some pics of the gun without the paint. Keep in mind, this is the Airsoft version, not the real steel. I don't own a real DE .50...yet.

De-oranged Pics (Theatrical Film/Photo Use Only!!!)

Another special treat, I've included photos/scans of the documentation that shipped with the gun. I cannot read a lick of Japanese, however the diagrams are amusing to us Americans. I've not included thumbnails because they are not helpful at all, however the acutal images are high resolution and range from 399KB-510KB, so if you're on dial-up...BEWARE!
As you can see below, my first assaulted item was a Dr. Pepper can. The gun does a fair amount of damage at what was probably no more than 2-3 meters (gimmie a break, my room is small!). It is also extremely accurate at this range. All the below fired shots were done with HFC-134A gas and the hop up adjusted to max for all but 2 of the shots. The most impressive of the fired shots are the dents in the bottom of the can. As you know, the bottom portion of an aluminum can is rather tough! This is an extremely entertaining plinking weapon. I'm trying to come up with a make shift BB catch/stop so I can hang targets and get some better accuracy numbers. Enjoy the photos!

A quick note about the hard kick blow back. It's awesome. The gun kicks pretty good. I'd compare it to something in the range of a .22LR pistol. At least one that has good recoil supression. It's somewhat loud to fire, but nothing ear pierecing. When you've got this gun in your hand it feels big and powerful, just as it should. If you're considering this gun, go get it. It's worth the cash and entertainment value, and at the time of writing this, I've only had mine for about 3 days. If you're not already an Airsofter, you will be hooked after this gun. After watching videos on what is becoming my favorite Airsoft site, Airsoft Retreat, I'm already looking for the full auto Glock 18C. I'm gunna need more BBs...hahaha!

Finally, I would like to give kudos to the company that sold me the gun. I know people are always looking for a good deal on these things, but are unsure where to buy. I purchased this from eHobby Direct on eBay. The seller had an awesome feedback profile, was fairly quick to communicate (keep in mind we have a 13 hour time difference), and had a good price. I purchased this for $139.95 which included shipping to the US. They are based in Hong Kong. eHobby Direct accepts PayPal and BidPay. They also accept checks, but it takes around a month to clear, not adviseable. Keep in mind, I've only had one experience with this person, but their eBay feedback profile tells a a good story.

[ update: 14 Feb 2005 ] - Well, good luck getting one of these with ease now. The eBay nazis have struck again. They no longer allow sellers from out of the country to export Airsoft weapons into this country. You have to find a vendor based in America to sell this to you. There are a few stores out there that have them. You may just want to try and buy directly from someone who exports them. The Tokyo Mauri is of ULTRA quality and construction. Oh well, chalk another one up to the eBay boneheads.

Agent Smith
