Digital Creations by Dave

Over the years I've managed to create many different things on the web. I'm featuring a few of the ones I am actually proud of here. This list will constantly be growing as I dig up old projects and create new ones. I also use this web site to test bed many of my "ideas." If you have any comments, please feel free to e-mail me. Okay, here we go...

Crescent City Supras is without a doubt the greatest of my on-line creations. This site is for the local Supra club that I am involved in. We had an old site, but it just flat out sucked. Users weren't able to edit anything and keeping up with 60+ members and their modifications to the vehicles was next to impossible. So now the new site allows people to log in to it and manage their own profiles. It allows people to register their vehicles with the sites, include descriptions with pictures, and include information about themselves. It also has a built in forum that I integrated from the popular phpBB package. The site also allows people to registered events that are going on and users can register for an event and flag if they can make it or not! I also have to credit two friends for assisting with the graphic design of the website, Frank and Bishop, thanks guys! Please check it site out and let me know what you think about it, the URL is http://www.crescentcitysupras.com.

www.W5GAD.org was designed for the local amateur radio club that I am involved with. I was elected as a board member this year, 2005, for a two year term. We have a club house located a the old Metairie Playground. The club is very active in the local community and even puts on a show during the D-Day Museum's D-Day annual event. Please check the site out, if you're interested in Amateur Radio, please join us. I'd also like to extend thanks to a buddy of mine, Lynxxx for help with graphics on the site!
The Graffiti Wall was created so people can leave anonymous one liner comments on any website. It is currently featured on this site, just click the link in the menu on the left. I got this idea from an old Major BBS module (and if you know what that means you've been on-line way too long) of the same name. I figured it was a lot of fun, so I made a web based one and as you can see passer bys have fun on my board. I will have it available for download under the GPL license at some point. Check back if you're interested. Meanwhile, have fun on my Graffiti Wall.
I created the Spam Bot Defender (SBD) with the help of my friend Dave, who has a better understanding of GD then I do. This day in age there are annoying little robot programs that comb the internet and harvest e-mail addresses with extreme efficiency. So if your e-mail address is listed in the web page (or anywhere in the HTML code for that matter) it will be harvested and you will start receiving e-mails about losing weight, enlarging organs, stock tips, and even septic tank repair. This little program thwarts those things by verifying your a human by enterting 5 randomly generated letters that are in graphical format so the robot programs can't guess it. You can see a demo of it here. A big thanks to Dave for helping me out with that, I will eventually release an expanded more configurable version of it, GPL of course. Yes, we are aware that SBD means "silent but deadly." That's sort of the point. It's silent, and it's deadly to spam bots.
imagePopper is exactly what it sounds like. I dislike popping up images in a new browser window, but it's the only feasible way to do it sometimes. What's even MORE annoying is when someone has a small 300x250 image that they pop up in my 1280x1024 browser. So this nifty little program will determine the image size and only pop up a browser that's large enough to hold the image. At least I think it's neat. I'm sure at some point it will be available here for download as well. It is currently in use in various places on this web site.
Pull Over is a fun but annoying little Internet link game. Basically you just try to get people to click a link and Officer Cartman (from South Park) pulls you over to a funny little tune and his annoying voice. Instructions on how to use the "game" are included on the site. Feel free to "compete" with the others. The link has been removed as the server housing this creation had a meltdown due to a brown out and a faulty UPS. When I find the backup of it I'll restore it.

Sleeping with PHP code on my bedsheets,
Dave
